Come train in a tropical paradise, warm ocean breezes, sunny skys, beautiful beaches and a clean safe community. Raising the bar on teaching with kindness and joy.

If after reading this entire web site you feel that you are in tune with our gentle, “baby friendly” philosophy and you feel at home with the principles expressed below, you may be a candidate for our teacher training workshop. Teaching babies has an incredible impact on a young child’s life and is a great responsibility, the “whole child approach” requires individuals with special “sensitive traits”. It is not for everyone. Our program attracts kind people with a caring heart and gentle touch.

The licensing and training runs for 4 consecutive weeks, with a one day rest and play each week.

Certification Levels:

Held at our Mindful swim school site in Boca Raton, Florida.

Level I…This level focuses on training the teacher in the fundamentals of the beginner baby swim course, Water Adjustment and Basic Skills. Attendance is at our facility in Boca Raton, Florida. Hands- on work in the pool with dolls as well as with parents and real babies is supplemented with classroom and video sessions as well as informal mealtime discussions. In the pool, guidance and training by master teachers helps the trainee learn playful, gentle techniques and methodology for this holistic and child-centered approach to water learning. Adjusting children to water, learning to read individual readiness cues and accomplishing safe, tear-free submersions and swims are part of the trainee’s curriculum for this course. The teacher trainee will learn to: conduct a group class, games, songs and activities; the timing involved in keeping a class flowing; how to individualize instruction in a group setting. Additional course materials provide background and foundation. The course culminates in the trainee conducting actual classes.

Level II…This level reviews briefly Water Adjustment and Basic Skills refining techniques and addressing any questions or problems the teacher trainee may have encountered in his/her practice and application at home. Primarily this level focuses on the baby swim courses entitled Safety Techniques I and Safety Techniques II.  The trainee will learn the age-appropriate skills that increase confidence, competence and safety in the intermediate baby swimmer all in a fun, safe, happy learning environment. Again, in- water training with master teachers and actual babies along with classroom, video and discussion will comprise the curriculum for this class. Reading materials will supplement and provide additional detail.

Level III…  While this level will review all beginner and intermediate courses, the primary focus will be on the baby swim courses entitled Advanced Safety Techniques and Water Tykes. The Master teacher and teacher trainee relationship continues in the pool with these advanced baby swimmers. Special drills and techniques developed to teach recovery for a breath, diving for rings, back swimming and roll from back to front and return (3 1/2 year olds who are ready and happy) will be introduced to the teacher trainee. As always, the child-centered classroom includes games, songs and fun.

Master Teacher……(This level requires certification at all three levels and at least 2000 hours of teaching experience). Master Teachers are hand-selected and named solely by Rob and Kathy McKay to act as “Teacher Trainers” at workshops and certification courses around the world. They have made a philosophical commitment to the Serenity Swim Network guidelines and methodology and are representative of the gentle, child-centered, child-paced and holistic practices established by the McKays. In co-operation with the McKays and SSN, Master Teachers are able to conduct teacher training courses and certify teachers using the above standards.
